Foundation Principles (Cont)
The ultimate goal of this group is to help each member achieve a connection with God sufficient to sustain a loving, intimate relationship with a lifelong partner.
The Daily Reprieve Group sees our disorder as a spiritual disorder, not as a psychological disorder. And if one believes that he is suffering from a psychological disorder, we have nothing to offer him. We do not profess any psychological expertise. Indeed, our Eighth Tradition enjoins us to “remain forever nonprofessional.” We are not psychologists. We are sex addicts. Nor was Bill Wilson a psychologist; he was a drunk. But he wrote us a new Gospel, a commonsense explication of the mystery of the grace of God, a guidebook to surrender. His book is the indispensable guide to all of recovery. Many other books have since been written about recovery; none holds a candle to the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Although we encourage reading in other AA and Alanon literature as well as bringing into our meetings traditional sources of spiritual guidance such as the bible, the Big Book is the primary text on which we rely.
The Big Book tells us that we will be absolutely unable to stop our addiction on the basis of self-knowledge and, further, that as we work this program, we will obtain no more than a daily reprieve, a respite entirely contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition. The focus of this group is that daily reprieve and the maintenance of that spiritual condition. It is our goal to apply the fundamentals of recovery to sex addiction. We hope you will join us in this adventure.
