North Texas Regional Intergroup of saa

Recovery by grace. You are worth it!

Intergroup Meeting & NOTES

The intergroup would still like to host a retreat in Fall 2010.  We request that all groups please ask your membership if anyone is interested in helping.  The last two years have had phenomenal retreats, and we would like to keep the momentum going!

For the treasurer's report, it was announced that the checking account which had been opened for the intergroup was costing $14 per month in fees, plus an additional annual fee, for a total of $81 in fees since July.  Jeff B. and others have researched what it would take to open a new account that would be tied to the group rather than to a person, since we change treasurers each year.   But it was consistently found that we run into problems with either incorporation, or else yearly IRS filings if we operated as a 501(c) nonprofit.  The ISO provided virtually no guidance.

Due to the monthly fees, it was unanimously approved to close the checking account while we continue to research the problem.  Contacting AA for advice was suggested.  (However, see UPDATES below.)

The intergroup pays $20/week ($520 every 6 months) for an ad in the Dallas Observer.  We heard a report from Jon A. who takes the calls that he is receiving several legitimate calls each week from the ad.  The Plano group shared that they have had people come to meetings based on seeing the ad.  So we are encouraged that outreach is working.

To help support this effort, the intergroup asks that groups please consider donating $20 per year in order to help our outreach activities.  (Details below.)  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

It was decided to table the discussion regarding if the intergroup would help offset costs to send one or more delegates to the ISO convention, until we have more clarity on our financial status.
Finally, we request that all groups please ask your membership if anyone is interested in writing literature for SAA.  The literature from ISO usually starts at the local or intergroup level, so if there are people in the area who would like to write, please contact the intergroup (feel free to respond to this email), and we'll get people in touch with each other.

Next intergroup meeting is expected to be in April.  Details will be forthcoming.
